Labor protests in Jordan 2010
labor watch -More than 100 labour protests have been held since the beginning of this year, compared to 140 in all of 2010, according to a report compiled by a workers' rights advocacy group.
The report, prepared by the Phoenix Centre for Economic and Informatics Studies (PCEIS), said the increase in the number of protests is an indication of a socio-economic and political crisis in the Kingdom.
Workers stage sit-ins because of their deteriorating standards of living due to increases in commodity prices, Ahmad Awad, who heads the PCEIS, told The Jordan Times on Sunday.
"Unless the authorities start addressing this issue more seriously and analyse the causes of the protests, the situation will get more complicated," he said.
